I’ve heard of Foursquare but really didn’t understand it and quite frankly I have enough sites to keep up with as it is. In addition I agree with Anita in that I don’t want anyone tracking my movements although there may be a way to block that. In any case, I don’t see a need for it either personally or professionally.

I'm new to foursquare but it's been fun for me and I'm trying to start leveraging it to get some exposure to BroadRiver. But I also love the fact that I can promote other businesses in the Atlanta area that I support and get some word out on places that may go somewhat unnoticed as well as learn about new venues.

All solid applications, but I still think the most powerful reason is how it eases new conversations. People ask me all the time, “why do I care where you are?” And I say, you might not care where I am, but if there is someone you want to build a relationship/friendship with, commenting on where they are checking-in is a very easy way to start a dialog…

I can appreciate your reasons for using Foursquare, but I'm not convinced. My chief concerns are irritating people who may be following my feeds on Twitter (I know there are at least two – HA!) and privacy/safety for myself and family. If some whack-o wanted to break into my home and knew that I was in Peachtree City for a meeting, which is a 70-minute drive in non-rush hour . . .well, you do the math!

Handy tips, thanks for sharing. I wrote a brief article a few weeks ago (http://bit.ly/9Cavxw) on the untapped benefits Foursquare can bring to B2B sales and marketing efforts – an area that most would assume wouldn’t benefit from these geo-location B2C apps. And now it seems that articles about it and its impending partnerships with other platforms are all over the place! Definitely a tool that shouldn’t be ignored.
